Neufreistadt gets the new legal system approved
In the same week, Neufreistadt both expanded (the new Colonia Nova sim was purchased) and a new judiciary system was introduced by a series of bills and amendments approved by the Representative Assembly on the meeting of September, 30th.This is a historical day. No democracy can work without having a well-established, organised, and carefully laid out legal system. Previously, one of the shortcomings of Neufreistadt was the ad-hoc nature of the procedures for passing judgement on legal issues. While there is already a rather fair amount of laws on our Code of Law, the lack of procedures to pass judgements based on those laws was a hindrance to our credibility.
Finally introduced by Ashcroft Burnham, and with several discussions at the Representative Assembly, on the forums, as well as on public meetings and gatherings, there was finally one approved document that establishes a firm foundation for a professionally-led judiciary system. In good old Neufreistadt fashion, the new judiciary system incorporates checks and balances, as well as keeping a large amount of independence from the political sytem (as required by any serious legal system), while still allowing the citizens, through their elected representatives, to place enough checks on the procedure of judge appointment.
What this means is that Neufreistadt enters a new phase, one which is already attracting RL practicioners of law (professors of law, laywers, barristers, and some students of law as well) from several different countries, which will strengthen our beliefs that there is no democracy without a legal system which is above each and every citizen — but which every citizen can vote to change.
